What We Do

The Society's main objectives are:

To encourage high standards in architecture and town planning.

To stimulate public interest in and care for the beauty, history and character of the town and its surroundings.

To encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest.

To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications and publicity and by the promotion of schemes of a charitable nature.

These aims are managed by a committee of four Officers and up to ten members, elected annually at the Society Annual General Meeting. This is held in November, and covers:-

1. A report on the year’s activities.

2. The Treasurer’s financial report.

3. Election of Chairman, Officers and Committee members.

4. Usually the business meeting is followed by a lecture or presentation by a speaker.
