Visit to Wakefield

Selby Civic Society members and guests visited Wakefield last Sunday as part of its 2018 Events programme and were treated to an informative and entertaining morning tour of a little-known gem in the city – the Georgian area - which is situated on the highest hill of the city, centred around St John’s Church. In the afternoon we went to the nearby National Coal Mining Museumfor a tour of the former Caphouse mine.

Cholera Burial Ground Memorial dedication event

A stone installed in 1995 by the Society had been badly damaged for some years. It has been replaced by a new memorial stone that will be formally unveiled and dedicated at 11.00 am on Thursday 12th April at an event to be attended by Society members, Selby Councillors and Selby Abbey's vicar, Canon John Weetman.
